Providence Day School has been nominated for four Blumeys, the 2015 Blumenthal Performing Arts High School Theater Awards.

PDS’s Upper School musical production, “Into the Woods,” has received nominations for Best Set Construction, Best Costume Creation, Best Choreography Execution and Best Supporting Actress for freshman Katlyn Gonzalez as Little Red Ridinghood.

Freshman Tessa Giordano and senior Thomas Laub also scored in the top 20 for the Best Actor and Best Actress categories; as such, they are invited to audition for the Blumey Award judges May 2. The six nominees for both of these categories will be chosen after the auditions and announced May 4.

“I cannot express the amount of pride I have for every single student involved with ‘Into the Woods,’” said Caroline Bower, Upper School theater teacher. “Everyone who touched this production — whether onstage, offstage or in the pit — helped to shape the intricate puzzle that it was and I am bursting with excitement for this group to represent PDS at the Blumeys.”

The Blumeys are a way to recognize, reward and encourage talent and achievement in musical theater among high school students in the greater Charlotte area. The Blumey Awards highlight the importance of musical theater and arts education.

“We are thrilled by the Blumey nominations for both individual and group categories,” said Eric Hedinger, Upper School head. “These nominations represent a collaborative team effort within our Upper School theater program. I am so proud of our faculty and students.”

The awards ceremony is at the Belk Theater May 17.
